The Utility Locator primarily marks underground cables, pipes, and other conduits to prevent damages. This role requires close collaboration with Fiber Optics Technicians and the Claims department to locate, restore, and report findings at damage locations.
Maintain computer database and inventory of utility locates in the assigned area
Perform locates within given timeframes and respond to tickets accordingly
Utilize conduit-location equipment to perform utility locates
Use site plans, area maps, and blueprints to locate and mark underground utilities, which may include low or high voltage cables, fiber optics, and communication lines
Communicate with relevant individuals when potential complications or emergency situations arise due to locate/relocate activities
Ensure markings and stakes are accurate and visible according to marking standards
Transport locating equipment and supplies to assigned sites; clean and maintain equipment
Perform basic troubleshooting
Provide demand and preventive maintenance for fiber networks and FTTH
Maintain proper network documentation on changes and upgrades
Perform other duties as assigned
High school diploma or recognized equivalent required
Associate degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, certifications, or equivalent preferred
Familiarity with EDEN software
Minimum of 3 years related telecommunications and utility locating experience required
Ability to adapt quickly to an ever-changing environment with little advance notice
