**Major Duties**

  • Supervise and manage identification, analysis and control of hazardous conditions found in the environment and facilities
  • Quantifies, prioritizes, and manages risk by proposing and applying the hierarchy of hazard control and determining equivalent protections.
  • Plan, direct organize, programming, evaluate and budget all phases of Safety and Occupational Health operations
  • Develops training and communication tools, such as newsletters, in support of VPP/Safety requirements and goals.
  • Assures the overall success of the safety and occupational health programs consistent with applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Assists in the coordination of safety and occupational health on-site assistance to leadership during emergencies

**Qualification Summary**

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
