NORTH OLMSTED CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION ANNOUNCES EXAMINATION FOR ENTRY LEVEL POLICE OFFICER
DATE: 3/31/2025 - 4/28/2025 through the National Testing Network (NTN). Candidates with a current NTN test score are welcome to submit their existing profile to North Olmsted along with any extra credit documents through NTN.
SALARY: 2025 Starting Salary $70,366.40 and top pay $92,705.60 in the 5th year
AGE REQUIREMENTS:
No applicants for entry-level appointment to the Police Department as a police officer shall be eligible to receive an original appointment unless the person has reached the age of twenty-one and has not yet reached the age of forty-three years of age or older, and no person can be declared disqualified as over age prior to that time.
REQUIREMENTS:
All Applicants shall be citizens of the United States and those persons who have legally declared their intentions of becoming United States citizens. Copy of a valid driver's license from any state and high school diploma or GED equivalent MUST accompany application (uploaded for North Olmsted online). Only applicants passing all three phases of the examination (video, report writing, and reading: passing scores are 70% for the video portion, weighted at 33.4%; 70% for the report writing portion, weighted at 33.3%; and 70% for the reading, weighted at 33.3%) will qualify for further stages of the testing process. Those stages being a mandatory Basic Peace Officer Training requirements and certifications, polygraph test, medical exam, background investigation and psychological profile evaluation. Passing of a physical agility test from Cuyahoga Community College or Lorain County Community College required prior to original appointment (is not needed to take the exam). NTN's Personal History Questionnaire MUST be completed.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must sign an agreement that you will not smoke on or off duty during employment with the City and sign a Code of Ethics.
ADDITIONAL CREDIT:
Given to applicants obtaining passing scores on the subtotal of all parts of the exam. Credit given for Honorable Discharged military service (1 point for each 6 months of active military service, up to a maximum of 10 points). Credit given for education: Four-year college degree in criminal justice/law enforcement equals 3 points; current certification by State of Ohio as peace officer (basic training academy and examination) equals 3 points; Four-year college degree in any other field equals 2 points; Two-year college degree in criminal justice/law enforcement equals 2 points; any two-year college degree equals 1 point; current physical agility certification validated prior to date of application equals 1 point. Such credit shall be awarded, upon submission of a qualifying State Certification and/or diploma from an accredited institution and MUST accompany application (uploaded for North Olmsted online); maximum 8 points.
