The  Accounting Manager will be focused on leading day to day financial operations, leading a small team, and being able to manage the seasonality of the business.

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, including supervision of accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial accuracy and compliance while optimizing processes to support a business that experiences seasonal fluctuations in volume and revenue. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in accounting within a logistics or service-based industry and will thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including AP and AR staff.
  • Oversee all AP and AR functions to ensure timely and accurate billing, collections, and vendor payments.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure timely reconciliation of accounts.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with operations and leadership teams to align accounting activities with business goals and seasonal planning.
  • Analyze and report on financial performance, variances, and trends to support decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support external audits and manage relationships with auditors, tax preparers, and financial institutions.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate AP/AR staff to support performance and development.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning in a seasonal business environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred but not required).
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience in the logistics, trucking, or transportation industry strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing accounting operations in a seasonal business or industry with variable volume.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar ERP systems).
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large datasets.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and adapt to changing priorities.
